[[Zenden is 1]]

17 Dec 2007... Zenden came into this world as a newborn baby. =]

17 Dec 2008... Zenden is a 1 yr old toddler. =)

But I still love to call him baby Zenden. He's 4ever my lovable baby!

He offically turns 1 today! So here I m to blog again!

A special entry to mark this special day as promised... My journey of pregnancy to labour.

~ How I discovered I was pregnant ~

Darling & I got ROM on 21 Dec 2004 & held our wedding banquet on 23 Dec 2006. We both love babies & we hope to have our own baby when we were still young. Thus after we officially got married in 2006, we did not do any planning. We juz wanna let nature takes itz course so no precaution was taken.

Initially, my menses were delayed for a few times. Each time we bought a pregnancy kit to test, tinking tat I could b pregnant. But they were juz false alarms. My menses came after I tested. :(

Some day in April 2007, I somehow miz my menses for like 1 mth+. Thus we bought a pregnancy kit to test.

It was a Sun morning when I tested myself. I urine on the stick & waited a few secs for the result. I couldn't believe wat I saw next. It showed 2 lines which meant I was pregnant! I was basically staring at the 2 lines, to make sure they won't fade away. I knew I was not dreaming so I rushed out to tell darling who's still asleep. Tink Zenden was conceived in March 2007.

I told him he's going to b a daddy! He was so happy wif the big surprise! We wanna confirm my pregnancy wif my GP but the clinic was closed on Sun. Hence we waited till the next day.

Went to the clinic the next day. After I took the pregnancy test, we waited outside for the nurse to call me in to Dr Yap's rm again. I was so nervous when I was called in. So scared tat it may b a false alarm.

When Dr Yap told me "Congratulation! U r pregnant!", I was thrilled! Those words were like magic to my ears. My joy was beyond words. I could c the delight on darling's face when I told him the news! I believe all couples who hope to have a baby will feel the same way as us. =)

Dr. Yap referred me to Gleneagles Hospital but I told her I would prefer Thomson Medical Centre. TMC had all along been famous for their reputation, a baby hospital! Itz oso nearer & more convenient if I wanna go for my monthly checks. I could get there faster if I was to give birth. Thus she referred me to Dr. Phyllis Liauw at TMC.

~ During pregnancy ~

I went for my 1st checkup at TMC. After tat I had to go back once a month. When itz nearing my expected due date (edd), itz twice monthly. My edd was 27 Dec 2007 so in the mth of Dec, I went back 3 times for my checkups. I arranged my checkups on Sats so darling was wif me during all the sessions. He's my biggest support during my pregnancy. =)

I was working as a childcare teacher then. My tummy got bigger & bigger but I continued to work. Everyday I would b teaching the children Language Arts, Phonics & Maths. Sometimes would b doing Art & Craft, story-telling etc wif them. Guess little Zenden was listening & learning in my tummy hehe...

I oso had to take care of them like bringing them to the playgrd, oversee them during meals, shower them as well as handle some admin stuffs. My boss was understanding as she allowed me to have a nap after lunch everyday. Thus I could rest/sleep wif the children. My colleagues were all very kind too, often offering me help. Really thankful to them! Though tired at work, I was happy everyday as I knew I had a new life growing inside me. (:

I worked all the way until 12 Dec 2007 b4 I left for my maternity leave & I oso drove all the way till the day I gave birth. I simply love driving so even wif a big tummy, I still drove. (;

During the early stage of pregnancy, I had to eat folic acid in tablet form. I could still eat tat coz they were small (Haha... for ur info I m like a kid, do not know how to swallow tablets). After tat iron pills & calcium tablets were given. They were big! I cannot swallow them so darling smashed them into powder form. They were so smelly when I tried to eat them. I forced myself to eat for the sake of my unborn baby but I ended up puking them out.

It happened a few times so we decided to ask my gynae if there were other alternatives to iron pills & calcium tablets. She prescribed something else which were easier for me. I juz had to suck the iron pills like a sweet & they tasted like choco. I could dissolve the calcium tablets into water & they tasted like orange juice haha...

My morning sickness was not so bad, only occasionally would feel nauseated. I ate as per normal but avoided certain food like crabs, mutton, grass jelly drink, watermelon, pineapples, salmon, sushi, oysters, clams, mussels etc. Heard tat these food r no gd for the unborn baby so I chose to believe, juz in case.

Darling took great care of me. He did chores... brought me to wherever I wanna go... buy watever food & drinks I wan... I could really feel his love during this tiring period of having to carry a big tummy all ard. He even bought $880 of bird nests for me. My mother-in-law & sometimes him would brewed them for me. (^-^)

We would b toking, singing & reading to little Zenden in my tummy everyday. Itz very impt to communicate wif ur unborn. We believed he really could hear wat's happening. =>

I miss my big tummy now. Lol...

~ My labour story (in more details) ~

I did blog abt my labour story b4 but 2day's version would b a more elaborated 1.

15 Dec 2007 was my last checkup. I was weighing 60kg then.

17 Dec 2007...

It was already past midnite when I slept. I watched the repeated drama on Channel 8 b4 I went to bed.

At ard 3:15am, I suddenly woke up coz I felt my bottom wet. I shook darling & told him "我好像小便". He jumped up wif a "huh?" I quickly rushed to the toilet & when I took off my shorts, more water gushed out. I was shocked & knew itz not urine. My waterbag had burst! I was going to give birth! Didn't expect to b so fast, juz 2 days after my last checkup.

I changed myself & put the remaining items into my maternity bag. I was shivering & darling told me he's shivering too haha... My father drove us to TMC. The road had only a few cars so we were lucky to reach the hospital at quite a fast speed. Little Zenden really knows how to choose the time lol... Darling actually had a big meeting tat morning, so coincidentally tat Zenden wanna come out too. Thus darling did not have to attend the meeting.

I could still walked into TMC & register coz no pain at all! I was brought up to the waiting rm. At 4 plus in the morning, I was told to change into the delivery gown & oso to pass motion. The nurse monitored me & checked my dilation after tat when I was done & lying down. Darling could not come in so he waited outside.

I was soon pushed to the delivery rm. Darling could come in. So happy to c him, I was so scared & nervous. The rm was spacious & had a tv. It was very cold so darling adjusted the temp for me. I was feeling tired but juz couldn't get to sleep. The tv was on but I juz had no mood to watch.

I was afraid my labour may drag for dunno how many hrs so I asked darling to go get something for himself to eat. I did not feel hungry so didn't wanna eat. Thus at 6 plus, darling rushed to the petrol station next to the hospital & got himself a sandwich.

The nurse came in & out of the rm to check on Zenden's heartbeat, my contraction levels & how much I had dilated. The contractions came soon & the intervals became closer. I was in deep pain! I curled up my legs & lay on my side, holding on to the side bar of the bed. The pain was a million times more than menses cramps. I was already breaking out in cold sweat. Darling kept comforting me. The pain was unbearable but I did not wan epidural.

At ard 7 plus, I got the urge to push. The feeling's like wanna pass motion. The nurse checked & asked me to hang on 1st. Dr. Liauw came. I was already toking nonsense due to the pain. I had dilated fully so itz time to give birth. I had difficulty breathing & my head's like spinning. I was taught the breathing techniques. I was given the laughing gas. I was yelling itz so smelly & wanna take off the oxygen mask but the nurse said itz juz the rubber smell. I had to put it on & breathe to prevent the baby from going into distress.

Darling held on tightly to my hand while I pushed, thus was scratched by my fingernails. Sorry darling & thanks for ur moral support at the delivery rm! He kept telling me Zenden was coming out. I was thus motivated to push. I 4got how many times I pushed. I only felt something slip out from below & a great relief followed after tat.

"Waaaah... waaaah" Zenden made a loud cry when he's out into this world. Our happiest moment. I shed tears of joy.

Dr. Liauw stitched up my below for me. I could c the black threads going up & down, scary! But itz not as painful as the delivery pain. The pain from the wound still hurt a lot after giving birth but seeing Zenden's cute little face makes the pain all worthwhile! :]

My baby Soh Le Yu (苏乐语) Zenden was born on 17 Dec 2007 at 8:03am. =>

But when darling called out his name "Zenden", he open his eyes slowly!

He could recognise his daddy's voice calling out to him. (:

"Daddy, faster tell mummy my nose is as nice as urs."
